Head over to Leicester this summer for a family-friendly bike ride through its beautiful city streets! On Sunday 25th August, the city centre will be closed to vehicle traffic, and instead taken over by more than 12,000 people seeing the city from the saddle.
Follow a 6km route past some of Leicester’s most notable sites: the King Power Stadium, De Montfort University and Highcross via Bede Park, Magazine Square, Cathedral Square, Market Square, St Peter’s Square and Jubilee Square; and live music along the route will help keep you motivated. Everyone is welcome: you can cycle as much or as little as you want, and, with no cars on the road, you can wobble, zig-zag and stop to your heart’s content, making the event perfect for even the youngest cyclists.
There’s plenty to do alongside cycling, too: watch BMX displays and live stunt shows; test yourself in the Sprint Zone or Bike Try-out; take a leisurely ride on a rickshaw, past the innovative junk-art; and tantalise your taste buds with some delicious street food.
Let’s Ride Leicester is part of the larger Ride Leicester Festival, from 17th to 31st August, celebrating and championing cycling in Leicester. The festival has more than 30 free, family-friendly rides and events for all ages and abilities, so be sure to check out some of the others, too – perhaps the Green Bicycle Mystery Weekend, Castle Classic Race Day, Bike Jam or Bike Fest.
The Holiday Inn Leicester Wigston is located just outside Leicester’s city centre, so provides the perfect base for your summer of free cycling fun!
